HOORAY FOR CHOCOLATE

A Willie Whale Book

Published by Scholarship Books Inc.

Katonah, New York

HOORAY FOR CHOCOLATE

Chocolate pudding,

Chocolate candy,

Chocolate drink, I think is dandy.

Chocolate fudge,

And donuts too,

Covered with thick chocolate goo.

Chocolate cookies, chocolate cake,

In a cone I always take

Chocolate,

Or chocolate chip,

Or chocolate-covered dairy dip.

Boy, oh boy! It would be nice

If only there were Chocolate rice,

Chocolate spinach, stew and fish...

Chocolate in every dish!

I ADVISE

Here's a word

To the Wise

Don't get soap

In your eyes!

WARNING

If your Dad is feeling grouchy,

Watch your step or you'll feel ouch-y.

RUBBERS

Parents make such a fuss over rain.

Phooey on rubbers! They give me a pain!

HOMEWORK

I work on homework all alone.

The more I work, the more I groan.

I'd like to pass a brand new rule -

NO MORE HOMEWORK AFTER SCHOOL!

SPULLING

I reely lick

Arithmetic

But spulling

Makes me very sic.

MY JOB

My Dad said he would pay me

For cleaning up his shop.

I swept the floor and told him,

"All done. Please pay me, Pop."

My Dad said, "Yes, I'll pay you,

But first clean up my shop."

I straightened up the work bench,

Cleaned up the mess on top,

And went to tell my father,

"All done. Please pay me, Pop."

My Dad said, "Yes, I'll pay you,

But first clean up my shop."

I piled up all the paint cans,

And didn't spill a drop.

I told him it was finished.

"All done. Please pay me, Pop."

My Dad said, "Yes, I'll pay you,

But first clean up my shop."

I've stacked up all the lumber.

I've used the pail and mop.

I've tidied up the tool check.

Will this job ever stop?

WHAT A WASTE

A bath a day will never pay

No matter what the grown-ups say.

You may be clean to start the day,

But who can play and stay that way?

I LIKE PETS

Once I hid a baby mouse

In the pocket of a blouse.

Mother found him, had a fit.

Told me to get rid of it.

Once I found a slimy slug,

Put him on the bathroom rug.

Mother found him, had a fit.

Told me to get rid of it.

Once I had a frog named Scamper,

Put him in the laundry hamper.

Mother found him, had a fit.

Told me to get rid of it.

Once I caught a lovely bat,

Hid him in an old straw hat.

Mother found him, had a fit.

Told me to get rid of it.

Now I have a grassy snake,

Hidden in a box marked Cake.

Mother's sure to have a fit.

She will scream, "Get rid of it!"

THIS IS KILLING ME

"Go scrub your face and wash your hands," Mother says to me.

I scrub my face, I wash my hands and come to let her see.

"Go scrub your face and wash your hands," she says again to me.

I scrub my face, I wash my hands, but this is killing me!

FIGHTS

It is not right to start a fight,

So try not to begin it.

Of course, you might be forced to fight,

So if you're in it, win it!

TV

When grown-ups say I've had enough of looking at TV,

There usually is some program the grown-ups want to see.

LUNCH

Pitter, patter

Potter, putter

Better, batter

Peanut butter!

YUM

Hooray for the hot dog in a bun.

Two taste twice as good as one.

YOU CAN HAVE THEM

Tell me what a baby's good for.

I can't even make a guess.

People say they're "cute" and "darling."

I think they just make a mess!

DON'T CRY

Whenever I get hurt, they say,

"You're big. Be brave. Don't cry."

It isn't ever easy,

But I swallow hard and try.

One day I fell and bumped my nose.

It bled and bled and bled.

"Cheer up. You're big. Be brave. Don't cry,"

Was all they ever said.

One day my puppy ran away

And I was blue and sad.

"Cheer up. You're big. Be brave. Don't cry,"

Was all the help I had.

One day I had a tooth pulled out.

That wasn't any fun!

"Cheer up. You're big. Be brave. Don't cry,"

I heard when it was done.

One day I slipped and cut my toe.

It hurt an awful lot.

"Cheer up. You're big. Be brave. Don't cry,"

Was all the help I got.

But once when I was very sick

With doctors by my side,

I didn't really hurt at all

Yet MOTHER cried and cried!

I DON'T LIKE DON'T

I hear a million "don'ts" a day.

No matter what I do they say...

Now don't do this,

And don't do that,

Don't interrupt,

Don't tease the cat.

Don't bite your nails,

Don't slam the door,

Don't leave those messes on the floor.

Don't shout,

Don't fight,

Don't spill your food.

Now don't talk back

And don't be rude.

Don't let the dog climb on your bed,

And don't forget what I just said.

Don't track in mud,

Don't slip,

Don't run.

Don't lose your cap,

Don't point that gun.

Don't touch the tray,

Don't tear your clothes,

And don't forget to blow your nose.

Don't go too far,

Don't climb that tree,

And don't fall down and skin your knee.

I don't like don't one little bit.

Look! Now they've got ME saying it!

BEANS, BEANS, BEANS

Baked beans,

Butter beans,

Big fat lima beans,

Long thin string beans -

Those are just a few.

Green beans,

Black beans,

Big fat kidney beans,

Red hot chili beans,

Jumping beans too.

Pea beans,

Pinto beans

Don't forget shelly beans.

Last of all, best of all,

I like jelly beans!

BUBBLE GUM

When I get a bubble blown up,

When I make it P-O-P,

There is sure to be a grown-up

Telling me to stop.

When I ge my face all bubbled,

I think it's just fine.

Grown-ups always look so troubled.

But it's not their face - it's mine.

GUESS WHAT?

Guess what I have in my pocket?

Not a space ship, not a rocket.

A one-way ticket to the moon!

I'm going to send my brother soon.

AIN'T

You may have heard

There is a word

That sounds like paint

And rhymes with faint.

It is not so. There ain't.

O.K.

Never say "Yeah."

Don't say "O.K."

"Yes" is polite,

And the right word to say.

So always remember:

Say "Yes."

Okay?

IT'S NOT FAIR

I always have to clean my plate.

They never let me stay up late.

I cannot wiggle in my chair.

They pick on me, and it's not fair!

A SPANKING

When they say,

"Shall I spank you?"

I always say,

"No thank you."

NO SOAP

I hope the dope

Who thought up soap

has to eat it.

I repeat it: Eat it!
